Dr Stephen Leppard FRANZCO, MBBS(UWA)

Cataract Surgery, Glaucoma and General OphthalmologyDr Stephen Leppard FRANZCO, MBBS(UWA) I believe I decided to study Engineering at University after high school because I always like to build dams from a very young age. Unfortunately this didn't translate into the reality of becoming a civil engineer and actually building real dams so I took off to the Himalaya's for a while in 1982 where I discovered that becoming an eye surgeon was my true calling. I obtained my undergraduate medical degree from the University of Western Australia in 1988 and was second place in my year. I then moved to Melbourne to study Ophthalmology at the world class Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. Here I was involved in working extensively in the sub-specialties of glaucoma and medical retina however cataract surgery always was my main interest. I chose to spend some time training in refractive surgery in New York in 1997. After returning to Australia I continued to perform Laser Vision Correction along with refractive cataract surgery for a number of years, but have since narrowed my area of interest to cataract surgery which I find to give a very high level of patient satisfaction with a high safety profile. I feel my focus on the refractive aspect of this type of surgery has been a great bonus to the precision needed for modern cataract surgery. I like to think of myself as an “Eye Doctor” – someone that patients can trust with the health of their eyes and vision over the course of their lifetimes. I take pride in maintaining relationships with patients, and often their families too, as the need for my care arises. I am blessed with a dedicated and caring team of staff at our practice locations in Hurstville and Miranda as well as at the National Day Surgery in Kogarah.
