Digital Retinal Photography
Digital Retinal Photography uses a high-resolution camera to capture images of the inside of your eye.
This helps to assess the health of the retina and optic nerve.
The main structures that can be visualized on a Digital Retinal photo are:
- the macula (central retina)
- peripheral retina
- optic nerve
Digital Retinal Photography is especially useful in conditions such as:
- Macula degeneration
- Diabetic eye disease
- Glaucoma (documenting baseline optic nerve appearance)
- Choroidal naevus, or "mole" in the retina, to monitor for changes over time
- and other eye diseases affecting the back of the eye
